General Affairs Council in Luxembourg

Preparations for the upcoming European Council (June 24-25), COVID-19 coordination, as well as hearings under the procedure of Art. 7 TEU were the main topics of the meeting of ministers responsible for European affairs. Poland was represented by the Minister for the European Union, Konrad Szymański.

The ministers discussed the agenda for the European Council, where EU leaders will debate COVID-19, economic recovery, migration and external relations (Russia and Turkey), as well as on the recent cyber attacks on Poland.

With regard to EU enlargement, the Presidency informed about an agreement with the European Parliament on IPA III. The Council had an exchange of views on the accession negotiations with the Republic of North Macedonia and the Republic of Albania.

The Presidency informed ministers of the outcome of the Lisbon European citizens' event on 17 June and of the Conference's first plenary on 19 June.Moreover, under the procedure of Art.

Ministers also held the hearings on the rule of law in Poland and Hungary  under Article 7 (1) TEU procedure.

Intergovernmental conferences with Serbia and Montenegro were held on the sidelines of the General Affairs Council on issues related to the application of the new enlargement methodology to the current negotiating framework. Poland was represented during the conferences by the Permanent Representative of the Republic of Poland to the EU, Andrzej Sadoś.
