Priorities of the French Presidency, the coordination of actions related to the COVID-19 pandemic, and the package on democracy and fair elections were the main items on the agenda at the Council of European Affairs Ministers. Poland was represented by Ambassador Andrzej Sadoś.
The meeting began with a presentation of the French Presidency's priorities. In a short debate, Member States expressed their support for the Presidency's programme and announced their cooperation in achieving its goals.
During the discussion on the coordination of COVID-19 response, ministers welcomed the adoption of Recommendation 2020/1475 on a coordinated approach to the restriction of free movement. At the same time, it was pointed out that efforts should be made to proceed with recommendation 2020/912 regarding the temporary restriction on non-essential travel into the EU as soon as possible, and to continue international cooperation on the vaccine sharing mechanism, especially in the context of assisting African countries.
Furthermore, the Council expressed broad support for the challenges related to the implementation of the democratic package, while stressing the need to analyse the document in great detail, due to the importance of the proposed solutions and their impact on the political sphere.
