General Affairs Council

Preparations for the upcoming European Council (October 21-22) and the informal meeting of the leaders in Slovenia (October 5), coordination of activities related to the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as the presentation of the Slovenian Presidency's priorities were the most important topics of the General Affairs Council in Brussels. Poland was represented by the Minister for the European Union, Konrad Szymański.

Ministers exchanged views on EU coordination on COVID-19. They discussed vaccination and travel restrictions. The Council held an in-depth discussion on additional doses and booster vaccines, and the need to distribute the vaccines to the third countries.

In addition, the Presidency provided an update on the Conference on the Future of Europe following the launch of the European Citizens' Panels on 17 September and in the run-up to the October plenary session.

The Council also referred to the EU's relations with China and the United States in the context of recent developments at the global level.
