International Holocaust Remembrance Day
27.01.2022
In cooperation with the Auschwitz-Birkenau Museum, Permanent Representation of Poland to the European Union commemorated the 77th anniversary of liberation of the Auschwitz concentration and extermination camp.
Ambassador Andrzej Sadoś along with other permanent representatives of EU member states heard testimonies from survivors of the camp, which focused on remembering the first transport of Jews to Auschwitz, and took part in ecumenical prayers.
During the ceremony, EU diplomats also viewed an exhibition by the Institute of National Remembrance: "Poles rescuing Jews during World War II" depicting the types and circumstances of assistance provided by Poles to the Jewish population.
International Holocaust Remembrance Day was established on 1 November 2005 by the UN General Assembly to commemorate the victims murdered by Nazi Germany during World War II.
