Minister Zbigniew Rau meets with Josep Borrell

The head of Polish diplomacy met with the EU High Representative for Foreign Policy and Security Josep Borrell. The main topics of the talks were issues in the area of European external policy, in particular regarding transatlantic relations and the EU's eastern neighborhood.

The chief of Polish diplomacy also stressed that the EU needs to step up its work on the economic plan for a democratic Belarus which was put forward by Poland and other V4 countries. He reminded that Warsaw is actively shaping the course of discussions on the Eastern Partnership’s future. Furthermore, he expressed his expectation that the Three Seas summit, planned for this year, will bring new, ambitious and feasible goals of the EU’s cooperation with the Partnership countries.

Minister Rau also presented Poland’s view of the EU’s relations with Russia. In his conversation with Josep Borrell, he emphasised that the recent developments, in particular Alexei Navalny’s arrest, justify giving human rights the top priority when holding a dialogue with Moscow.
