Porto Social Summit

EU leaders met in Porto to discuss social issues, especially in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic. The social summit was followed by an informal meeting of the European Council. Poland was represented by Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki.

The aim of the Porto Social Summit was to provide a political impetus to the implementation of the European Pillar of Social Rights and its Action Plan on employment, equal opportunities, social protection and health.

On the second day of the meeting during the informal format of the European Council, leaders discussed the implementation of the European Pillar of Social Rights in the EU, in line with the EU Strategic Agenda 2019-2024, the COVID19 situation, focusing on the draft digital green certificate regulation, as well as vaccine distribution. The leaders also discussed current situation in the Indo-Pacific region.

At the end of the meeting, there was a videoconference with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
