The ceremony of handing over the presidency of the Visegrad Group to Poland

A symbolic ceremony of handing over the presidency of the Visegrad Group to Poland was held in the Permanent Representation of the Republic of Poland to the EU. Ambassador Andrzej Sadoś delivered his welcome remarks outlining the role and importance of the Group in shaping the European Union and presented the main priorities of the Polish Presidency for the coming year.

The event was attended by the high rank diplomats of the V4 states and the countries of the region and Luxembourg, for historical reasons, as well as representatives of European institutions. Among the guests were: EU Commissioner for Neighborhood and Enlargement Oliver Varhelyi, EU Commissioner for Agriculture Janusz Wojciechowski, Ambassador Jakub Durr, Permanent Representative of the Czech Republic to the EU, Ambassador Tibor Stelbaczky, Permanent Representative of Hungary to the EU, Ambassador Peter Javorcik, Permanent Representative of Slovakia to the EU, Ambassador Irena Andrassy, ​​Permanent Representative of Croatia to the EU, Ambassador Georges Fridden, Permanent Representative of Luxembourg to the EU, Ambassador Luminita Odobescu, Permanent Representative of Romania to the EU and Ambassador Iztok Jarc, Permanent Representative of Slovenia to the EU.

The Visegrad Group was established in February 1991. Its name comes from the city of Visegrad in the north of Hungary, which in 1335 hosted the congress of the kings of the Czech Republic, Hungary and Poland.
