Video conference of EU justice ministers

During an informal video conference ministers of justice discussed the impact of the COVID-19 crisis on justice and exchanged experiences on combating hate speech and disinformation. Poland was represented by Undersecretary of State at the Ministry of Justice, Marcin Romanowski.

Ministers emphasized that restrictions on fundamental rights in relation to the pandemic were temporarily introduced with respect for the principles of proportionality of measures. Member States have announced that they will continue to use the digital tools introduced in justice systems.

During the afternoon session, a discussion was held on national experience in combating hate speech and disinformation, emphasizing that during the pandemic the prevalence of these phenomena has increased significantly and it is indispensable to continue cooperation in this area at EU level.
