Piotr Otawski
General Director for Environmental Protection
Piotr Otawski – legal adviser, PhD in legal sciences, MA in environmental protection. Specialises in environmental law, spatial planning law and investment process regulations. He has many years of jurisprudence, legislative and negotiating experience.
In 2008, he was one of the persons responsible for the preparation and implementation of a comprehensive law reform on environmental impact assessments and the management of living nature resources.
Deputy General Director for Environmental Protection in 2009-2014. Represented Poland on the forum of the Convention on Environmental Impact Assessment in a Transboundary Context (Espoo Convention), sitting in the bodies of the Convention – as Chairman of the Working Group and then Chairman of the Convention Bureau and Chairman of the Meeting of the Parties to the Convention.
From 2012 to 2016, he was a member of the Building Law Codification Commission.
Undersecretary of State at the Ministry of the Environment – Chief Conservator of Nature from 2014 to 2015.
From 2022, member of the Climate & Space Commission at the Ombudsman working on environmental spatial planning reform.
Long-time university lecturer at Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań, Warsaw University, Łazarski University and Collegium Civitas in the field of environmental law and environmental policy in both national and European aspects.
Author of numerous publications on environmental law and the investment process.
He was a founder and partner in a law firm specialising in investment process and environmental law.
