Poland in NATO

Deputy Minister of Defence, Paweł Zalewski participated in 19th U.S.-led Ukraine Defence Contact Group meeting which took place in NATO HQ on 14 February 2024.

A meeting of the North Atlantic Council in National Security Advisers format took place on 7th February in Brussels. Poland was represented by the Chief of the National Security Bureau, Jacek Siewiera.

On September 17-18, a group of Permanent Representatives to NATO paid a visit to Poland to review the security situation on NATO's eastern flank and visit strategic locations for Allied cooperation in the face of the war in Ukraine.

The President of the Republic of Poland, Andrzej Duda, led the Polish delegation at the meeting of NATO Heads of State and Government organized on July 11-12 in Vilnius. During the two-day session, meetings of the North Atlantic Council were held, including with the participation of invited NATO partners, as well as a meeting of the NATO-Ukraine Council with the participation of President Volodymyr Zelensky. On the sidelines of the Summit, Andrzej Duda held numerous bilateral meetings.

On June 15-16, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defense Mariusz Błaszczak participated in a meeting of NATO defense ministers. These were the last consultations at the ministerial level before the NATO Summit in Vilnius in July.

Between 31 May and 1 June, the head of Polish diplomacy took part in an informal meeting of NATO ministers of foreign affairs in Oslo. The purpose of the visit was to discuss decisions to be taken during this year’s NATO Summit in Vilnius (scheduled for 11–12 July 2023). The meeting was attended by the foreign minister of Sweden, an official NATO invitee.

On May 7, the second edition of the Polish Day in Brussels took place in the Cinquantenaire Park, during which Polish culture, history and Polish language were promoted. The event was a mass family picnic, integrating the Belgian Polonia, the Brussels diplomatic corps, Belgians and foreign guests.

On April 4-5, 2023, Minister Zbigniew Rau took part in the meeting of the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the North Atlantic Alliance. The main topic of the ministers' talks was the reaction to the war waged by Russia against Ukraine and the preparations for the July NATO Summit in Vilnius.

The Russian Federation’s armed attack against Ukraine is an act of aggression which, by its character, gravity and scale, constitutes a manifest violation of the Charter of the United Nations. Thus, it simultaneously constitutes a crime of aggression.

One year after the Russian Federation attacked Ukraine, the Republic of Poland reaffirms its willingness to provide further military, political and humanitarian support to Ukrainians in their defence of freedom and independence.
