Opening of Honorary Consulate in Rjukan

Poland’s Honorary Consulate in Rjukan was officially opened on 21 August 2024. The office is headed by Honorary Consul Per Lykke. The consulate was opened by Chargé d’affaires a.i. Tomasz Orłowski, governor of Vestfold and Telemark Fred-Ivar Syrstad, mayor of Tinn Kathrine Haatvedt, and deputy governor of Telemark Terje Riis-Johansen.
The ceremony was attended by representatives of local authorities: mayor of Notodden Gry Fuglestveit, mayor of Seljord Solveig Abrahamsen, mayor of Hjartdal Bengt Halvard Odden, honorary consul of Lithuania Carl Thomas Carlsten, director of Gaustabanen Halvor Haukaas, Siw Langeland from Visit Rjukan, as well as representatives of the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Oslo: consul Agnieszka Kucińska-Spyrka, and vice consul Andrzej Jach, Poles living in the region, and Norwegian politicians.
In the artistic part of the ceremony, theater actress Randi Mossing read a few poems of Polish Nobel prize winner Wislawa Szymborska.
After the official opening of the office, the attendants moved to Rjukan Town Hall, where representatives of local authorities and Polish Embassy in Oslo gave speeches highlighting the contribution of Poles living in Vestfold and Telemark to the region’s economy social life.
