Andrzej Głowacki appointed as the new President of the PAA

On March 22, 2023, the Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki, at the request of the Minister of Climate and Environment, appointed Andrzej Glowacki as the President of the National Atomic Energy Agency (PAA). On March 29, Anna Moskwa, Minister of Climate and Environment, on behalf of the head of the government, handed the appointment to the new President of the PAA.
Since mid-December of last year, Andrzej Glowacki has been acting as the President of the PAA. The new president has been associated with the National Atomic Energy Agency for more than fifteen years. Since September 2020, he has served as Vice-President of the Agency. Previously, he held the position of Director of the Nuclear Safety and Security Department, responsible, inter alia, for overseeing the safety of the country's nuclear facilities, including the MARIA research reactor. At the PAA, Andrzej Glowacki also held the position of Director of the Supervision and Inspection Department, as well as Head of the Nuclear Facility Inspection Division.
Andrzej Głowacki holds a master's degree in physics. He graduated from the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics at the University of Bialystok. He perfected his skills during post-graduate studies in nuclear energy at the Faculty of Power and Aeronautical Engineering at the Warsaw University of Technology. He also completed a number of national and international trainings related to nuclear safety and radiation protection, including on-the-job training at the US Nuclear Regulatory Commission (US NRC) in the scope of conducting inspections at the construction site of the Vogtle nuclear power plant and V.C. Summer, as well as the commissioning of the Watts Bar 2 nuclear power plant in the United States. As an expert, he participated in the international IRRS mission in Canada.
Andrzej Głowacki is the representative of the Republic of Poland in the Heads of the European Radiological Protection Competent Authorities (HERCA), the Western European Nuclear Regulators Association (WENRA), the European Nuclear Safety Regulators Group (ENSREG), the Committee on Nuclear Regulatory Activities (CNRA) and the Nuclear Energy Agency of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (NEA OECD). The new president also has the authorization of a nuclear regulatory inspector.
Andrzej Głowacki was elected the President of the National Atomic Energy Agency through an open recruitment process. Pursuant to the provisions of the Act – the Atomic Law, the President of the National Atomic Energy Agency is appointed for a five-year term and may be reappointed only once.
