Meeting of HERCA Board of Heads

Improvement of the radiation protection system and the new Strategy were at the heart of the 29th HERCA Board of Heads (BoH) meeting held in Budapest on 19-20 May. Poland was represented by Andrzej Głowacki – Vice President of the PAA.
The meeting was an opportunity to approve HERCA task force paper on HERCA’s Reflections on the Revision of the System of Radiological Protection. The paper will be addressed to the International Commission on Radiological Protection (ICRP) Chair as a follow-up on the discussion previously held in relation to the ICRP’s project of updating its recommendations.
During the meeting the new HERCA Strategy implementation was also discussed. The paper focuses on cooperation, efficiency and stakeholders. This time the participants also discussed formal issues which will facilitate HERCA’s regular meetings.
The regular item on the agenda was a debate on the current and future activities of working groups. The group dedicated to emergency preparedness and response presented the accomplished activities in relation to the conflict in Ukraine.

HERCA is a voluntary association gathering the European Heads of Radiation Protection Authorities. The goal of HERCA is to contribute to a high level of radiation protection. During international meetings, experts discuss various problems of radiation protection. Expert debates are used to develop common and harmonized solutions to problematic issues. HERCA is also a forum for the exchange of information and experience, in particular with regard to the practical transposition of European legislation and international recommendations.
