PAA President, Dr Łukasz Młynarkiewicz, and Deputy President, Andrzej Głowacki, were talking to the representative of the Ukrainian nuclear regulator, Oleh Korikov. The talks focused on the Zaporizhzhya NPP and the planned enhancement of cooperation between the PAA and SNRIU.
During the on-line meeting held on 6 September, the president of the State Nuclear Regulatory Inspectorate of Ukraine (SNRIU) informed the PAA about the current situation at the Zaporizhzhya NPP, which since the beginning of March has been occupied by the Russian forces. Oleh Korikov said, among other things, that one of six units of the Zaporizhzhya engine rooms is operating and generates power needed to cool the nuclear safety systems.
The heads of Polish and Ukrainian nuclear regulatory authorities also debated on nuclear safety, radiation monitoring and the IAEA mission to the Zaporizhzhya NPP.
Since the Russian invasion on Ukraine, the PAA has been in constant contact with the Ukrainian nuclear regulator. Both parties expressed their mutual desire to cooperate in nuclear safety and radiation protection.
