PAA strengthens cooperation with the United Kingdom’s nuclear regulator

The President of the PAA and the Chief Nuclear Inspector of the United Kingdom’s Office for Nuclear Regulation have signed Memorandum on nuclear safety information exchange and cooperation. The partnership between the Polish and British regulators has been in place since 2014.

The Memorandum on further cooperation between the Polish and British nuclear regulators was signed by the President of the PAA, dr Łukasz Młynarkiewicz, and Mark Foy, the UK’s Chief Nuclear Inspector. The declaration was signed on November 24th during a meeting in Brussels. The agreement provides for further cooperation on nuclear safety and radiation protection but also expands the existing scope of activities to include new nuclear technologies, including small modular reactors (SMRs). The PAA and the UK’s Office for Nuclear Regulation have committed to exchange information on, i.a.:

  • regulations on civil nuclear facilities;
  • transportation of radioactive materials;
  • licensing and inspection of nuclear facilities;
  • regulations on radioactive sources.

The Memorandum signed in Brussels strengthens the partnership between the Polish and British regulators. The first declaration of cooperation between the UK’S Office for Nuclear Regulation and the PAA was done in Vienna in 2014.
