21.01.2025

The National Atomic Energy Agency hosted a workshop with experts from the International Atomic Energy Agency. The topic was IAEA international standards for the safety of nuclear power plants.

For five consecutive days, the IAEA experts shared with the staff of the PAA their knowledge of safety requirements that apply to the design of systems, structures and components of nuclear power plants. All this was done so that the Polish experts could best prepare for the licensing process of the country's first nuclear power plant.

- The workshop with the IAEA experts was one of the elements of these preparations - says Andrzej Głowacki, President of the PAA.  As a nuclear regulatory authority, the PAA will exercise nuclear safety oversight over activities related to the construction, commissioning and subsequent operation of a nuclear power plant. These are experts at the PAA who will verify the design documentation in terms of nuclear safety, radiation protection or physical protection, and check compliance with Polish and international standards and regulations.

The President of the PAA stresses that the knowledge and experience of experts from international organizations are of significant help. Last December, IAEA experts conducted a similar workshop for employees of Polskie Elektrownie Jądrowe, the company which is acting as an investor in the construction process of a nuclear power plant in Pomerania.
