Representatives of the PAA took part in the anniversary meeting of WENRA
08.11.2024
On November 7-8 this year, the autumn plenary meeting of the Western European Nuclear Regulators Association WENRA was held in Poland at the headquarters of the National Atomic Energy Agency. The meeting was attended by heads of nuclear regulators from Europe, Japan, Canada and the USA. The Polish delegation, led by the President of PAA, Andrzej Głowacki, took part in discussions on current challenges in the area of nuclear safety.
The WENRA Association, which is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year, meets in plenary and working group formats. The Association develops Safety Reference Levels (SRLs) in the area of nuclear safety and conducts work on the harmonization of these levels among member countries. The documents developed by WENRA constitute a source of high-quality knowledge and experience in the field of nuclear safety and radiation protection requirements.
At the meeting, the heads of nuclear regulators discussed work priorities for the coming months in accordance with the strategy adopted last year. The main goal of the Association remains to constantly strengthen safety by updating safety reference levels in relation to trends in the development of nuclear power (including the development of new and innovative reactor technologies). They also discussed the possibility of tightening WENRA's cooperation with the European Union, specifically with the European Nuclear Safety Regulatory Group (ENSREG), and experiences related to extending the operation of nuclear power plants (long time operations - LTO).
The next meeting will take place in April 2025 in Slovenia.
Since 2023, Poland has been a member of WENRA
It is also the anniversary of Poland's membership in WENRA. After many years of being an observer, Poland has been a full member of the WENRA association since November 2023.
