Ten years after Fukushima – lessons learned and actions taken. PAA on the international conference

A decade after the Fukushima nuclear disaster hundreds of experts summarized actions undertaken to date, and discussed the plan to strengthen nuclear safety in Vienna. The discussions taken part during the International Atomic Energy Agency’s International Conference. The event was attended by the President and Vice-president of the National Atomic Energy Agency of Poland of Poland (PAA).
10 years after fukushima - experts conclude
Nuclear disaster in Fukushima-Daiichi, that took place in March 2011 was a truly tragic event in the history of nuclear energy. It initiated the discussion about the future and safety of that source of power generation. Ten years after the events, International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) organized the conference gathering international experts, nuclear operators and regulatory authorities. The event took place from 8th to 12th November in Vienna. – Today, in spite of all lessons learned from that disaster, as well as implemented improvements in safety culture, international community continue to strive to gather more experiences and conclusions in order to achieve the highest level of safety – underlined the participants.
The opening ceremony was attended by around 200 guests. Another 400 participants joined the event on-line. The weeklong conference consisted of several sessions and thematic panels, including the topic of assuring safety in nuclear power generations, emergency preparedness and response, leadership and management, legal matters, as well as communication and building of public trust.
President of the PAA on safety of nuclear development
Safety of new nuclear power programs was one of the key topics discussed among experts participating in the event. The President of the National Atomic Energy Agency (PAA) of Poland, Mr. Łukasz Młynarkiewicz was one of the main panelist during the above discussion.
Dr. Młynarkiewicz, touching upon the key elements of the Polish nuclear Power Programme introduced the goal of implementation of nuclear power in Poland. The PAA as a nuclear regulator plays a key role in that endeavor. The PAA President emphasized the continuous support provided by the IAEA to achieve the highest possible level of nuclear safety.
