The 68th General Conference of the International Atomic Energy Agency has begun

The conference is attended by a Polish delegation headed by the President of the National Atomic Energy Agency, Andrzej Głowacki. - Poland is continuing its efforts to maintain nuclear safety and radiation protection - said Andrzej Głowacki during Poland's speech.

Representatives from more than 170 member states of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) are attending the 68th edition of the General Conference. This year's IAEA conference takes place from 16-20 September in Vienna. The PAA’s President is accompanied by the Director of the Nuclear Energy Department at the Ministry of Industry, Paweł Pytlarczyk, and the Director of the Policy and International Cooperation Bureau at the PAA, Iga Pocztarek-Tofil.

On the first day of the conference, the PAA’s President met with IAEA’s Director General Mariano Grossi to discuss Poland's cooperation with the Agency, support for nuclear safety activities in Ukraine and the participation of Polish institutions in the IAEA's technical cooperation programme.

The Polish delegation planned a series of meetings with representatives of IAEA’s member states.

This year's conference themes

The main themes of the conference are nuclear safety in Ukraine, peaceful uses of nuclear materials and supporting the development of nuclear technologies.  - Current uncertainty and political disagreement should not make us forget common priorities (…). The work we do cannot be put on hold until geopolitical tensions ease - explained IAEA’s Director General Rafael Mariano Grossi at the opening of the conference.

At the opening of the conference, the two new members of the International Atomic Energy Agency were officially welcomed: the Cook Islands and the Federation of Somalia.
