The Institute of Radiological Protection and Nuclear Safety (French: Institut de radioprotection et de sûreté nucléaire - IRSN) became the first foreign entity authorized by the PAA President. The scope of authorization for the IRSN includes deterministic analyzes of severe accidents in nuclear power plants. The authorization certifies the high quality of IRSN's work for nuclear safety. This is the first step for the Institute to apply for the participation as a technical support organization for the PAA in the process of licensing and supervision over the construction of nuclear power plants. So far, 8 institutions have been authorized by the PAA President. Their list and the scope of authorizations granted are available on the PAA's website.

The IRSN is a French national expert entity operating in the field of radiation and nuclear risks. This organization provides scientific and technical support for the safety of existing and planned nuclear facilities.

The meeting at the PAA headquarters in Warsaw was also attended by representatives of the Embassy of France in Warsaw. Further cooperation between the PAA and the IRSN was discussed in the context of the Institute's participation in the process of licensing nuclear power plants, joint training opportunities and regulatory challenges.
