Poland is represented by Ambassador Dominika Krois, Permanent Representative of the Republic of Poland to the United Nations Office in Vienna and Dr Łukasz Młynarkiewicz, the PAA President. The meeting was open by IAEA Director General, Rafael M. Grossi, who talked e.g. about the ongoing consultations on the establishment of the safety zone around the Zaporizhzhya NPP.

The situation at the Zaporizhzhya NPP

According to the information received by the PAA from the State Nuclear Regulatory Inspectorate of Ukraine (SNRIU), currently all reactors at the Zaporizhzhya NPP are switched off and do not generate power. Fortunately, there is a connection to the external power line. Should there be no external power supply, the Zaporizhzhya NPP has an internal power supply system – e.g. batteries and backup diesel generators.

The situation at the Zaporizhzhya NPP poses no risk to human health, life and the environment in Poland. The PAA continuously monitors the radiation situation in Poland – the readings of the instruments are within normal range. The current radiation monitoring levels are available at the PAA website: https://www.gov.pl/web/paa/sytuacja-radiacyjna.
