A test of solidarity and responsibility - humanitarian aid to Ukraine
28.02.2022
The head of the Polish government met with ambassadors from the European Union, the European Economic Area and other European countries. The aim of the meeting was to coordinate humanitarian aid for Ukraine. Poles are already involved in many ways in supporting their neighbours: both those fleeing the war and those defending their country.
The Russian attack on Ukraine caused a humanitarian crisis. Poland, like many other countries, is supporting the Ukrainians in many different ways. Assistance to our neighbours is very important, but it should be systemic in order to reach those who really need it and to respond to their needs.
Mass mobilisation for Ukraine
Poland has already received 300 000 war refugees. Polish women and men, all people of good will, got immensely involved. They are active in many fields: they organise collections, provide accommodation and financial support.
"We are dealing with national mobilisation," stressed the Prime Minister. "I believe that together we are capable of achieving great things and that we are capable of helping the sudden wave of refugees which has appeared in south-eastern Poland today. We shall pass this test of responsibility and solidarity."
Stand with Ukraine
The government has launched a website: https://pomagamukrainie.gov.pl/ dedicated to those who seek help and those who are ready to provide it. By coordinating our efforts, we can make even better use of the available options and support more people!
The coordination of humanitarian aid on the international level was the very topic of the Prime Minister's meeting with representatives of European countries. Declarations of support come from many directions, as the head of the Polish government emphasised when addressing the ambassadors: Your Prime Ministers call me practically every day, from almost every country in the European Union. They ask us how they can contribute to the organisation of support for refugees.
