Address of Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki to officers of the Border Guard, Police and soldiers

I salute you, soldiers and officers, and thank you very, very much for your service, for what you do. A state’s ability to defend its borders is a measure of its sovereignty. What I saw here just now, having received the reports from the Minister, Generals and Colonels, is a highly professional service and a very well organised action. A very well organised action at every section.

Who would have thought just a month, two, three ago that we would be facing actions involving human shields, as Lukashenko’s regime is using civilians as weapons for a modern hybrid war. What we are seeing right now is new methods.
At the same time, you are our key bastion, our key redoubt meant to defend us against these new methods. And you are doing it spectacularly. You are doing it not just professionally, but also with complete respect for human dignity on both sides of the border.

We are sending one humanitarian convoy after another. They bounce off the border. At the same time, we are well aware (with the Generals having informed me about the conditions on the other side) that this is a fully planned action aimed at violating the sovereignty of our country. To us, this is perfectly clear. We know full well that there is an ongoing search for our weak points.

I also want to thank you for combining all these actions – logistical, typical military, supply, organisational and operational. This all shows excellent organisation and your readiness not just to serve, but to defend our borders, and do so effectively.

The Polish eastern border is also the border of the European Union. Yesterday, I spoke with the President of the European Commission and with Prime Ministers of several countries. They each expressed their highest respect and gratitude for your actions, your courage, your readiness to serve in every minute, every hour of every day. This is something that everyone is looking at.

Finally, I want to thank you for not just being here, but also adapting to changing conditions. We have no idea what Lukashenko’s regime will come up with next. That is the unfortunate reality. But we are grateful for such cooperation. I would like to thank the Minister of National Defence, the Chief Commandant of the State Fire Service, the state Border Guard, the Chief of Police, commandants of the fire service, all services and, of course, all soldiers and officers who are here.

You are at the front line. The entire Poland is grateful to you for that.

Thank you.
