Prime Minister Donald Tusk has accepted the resignations of four ministers who will run for seats in the upcoming European Parliament elections. The list includes Marcin Kierwiński, Bartłomiej Sienkiewicz, Borys Budka and Krzysztof Hetman. The official appointment of the new ministers will take place on Monday at the Presidential Palace.

Changes in the government. Four ministers to be replaced

Resignations of ministers running for seats in the European Parliament

The Prime Minister did not want the ministers campaigning in the European Parliament elections to combine these efforts with their work in the government. In spite of the short term of office, Donald Tusk assessed that the outgoing ministers had done their jobs well.

“I expected them to be effective, sometimes even tough. The first few months were all about tearing down walls. Today, we have a clean-up on our hands," explained the Prime Minister as he presented the new appointments. “Our task is to make an optimum use of opportunities and circumstances. All that matters now is Polish interest," he added.

Prime Minister Donald Tusk has accepted the following resignations:

  • Marcin Kierwiński - Minister of the Interior and Administration;
  • Bartłomiej Sienkiewicz - Minister of Culture and National Heritage;
  • Borys Budka - Minister of State Assets;
  • Krzysztof Hetman - Minister of Development and Technology.

The Prime Minister thanked the former Minister of Development and Technology Krzysztof Hetman for his good work, and the Minister of State Assets Borys Budka heard words of gratitude for carrying out the “difficult and thankless mission in the first months, focused on cleaning up and restructuring State Treasury companies".

The Prime Minister also had some words of appreciation for the former Minister of Culture and National Heritage, Bartłomiej Sienkiewicz.

 “I would like to thank you very much on behalf of the viewers and the entire public, who decided to vote for our Coalition on 15 October to ensure that the public media would be restored," said Donald Tusk.

During the ceremony at the Chancellery of the Prime Minister, Donald Tusk also bid farewell to the former Minister of the Interior and Administration Marcin Kierwiński, who “braved the attacks of those who thought that they would enjoy impunity in the new reality of Poland".

“Thank you very much for making sure that the Poles have regained their confidence that no politician will not go unpunished just because he is a politician," said the Prime Minister.

In the European Parliament, Polish representatives will have to work hard to bolster the unity of the European Union and to convince their partners of our vision for the development and defence of the continent.

New ministers in the government

The Prime Minister will ask President Andrzej Duda to appoint new ministers:

  • Tomasz Siemoniak - Minister of the Interior and Administration;
  • Hanna Wróblewska - Minister of Culture and National Heritage;
  • Jakub Jaworowski - Minister of State Assets;
  • Krzysztof Paszyk - Minister of Development and Technology.

Tomasz Siemoniak will have a dual responsibility in the government, combining the posts of the Minister of the Interior and Administration and the Coordinator for Intelligence Services.

“The internal situation in Poland, the situation on our borders, the constant state of danger and the damaged relations with Belarus - all of this prompts us to bolster the government and the uniformed services. We also need to ensure better coordination of agencies responsible for state security, and this is one of the areas where his previous experience at the Ministry of Defence will come in handy,” Donald Tusk explained. The Prime Minister admitted that he holds Tomasz Siemoniak in great regard.

The Ministry of Culture and National Heritage will be headed by Hanna Wróblewska.

“All the people who hold Polish culture dear understand my motivations,” the Prime Minister noted. “Hanna Wroblewska's entire life and achievements perfectly sum up the reason for nominating her to this position. I am convinced that with her at the helm, we will enjoy great cooperation with Polish creative and artistic communities," he added.

Jakub Jaworowski, a former minister in the Chancellery of the Prime Minister, is to be appointed the new Minister of State Assets. His tasks will include overseeing state-owned companies and fostering synergies between them.

“We are going to carry on with the task of restructuring state-owned companies, the sorry state of which is perfectly illustrated by Daniel Obajtek and the situation at Orlen. The clean-up process is already underway, but the new minister will definitely have a lot on his plate in that regard,” Donald Tusk admitted. “We want all State Treasury companies, in particularly those with strategic importance, to pursue a comprehensive strategy aimed at boosting the Polish economy, working hand in hand with the government," he added.

The position of the Minister of Development and Technology was given to Krzysztof Paszyk, representative of the Polish People's Party.

“People who know him well say that he is a rock and a truly reliable man. With Krzysztof Paszyk at the helm, I am convinced that the coalition will continue to work seamlessly, taking advantage of the synergies,” the Prime Minister stated.

The dismissal and nomination ceremony is slated to take place on Monday at 10:30 a.m. at the Presidential Palace.
