Jarosław Kaczyński: There is no pressure from the refugees. What passes through are economic migrants brought by the Belarusian authorities.

During a press conference at the Border Guard unit in Białystok, Deputy Prime Minister Jarosław Kaczyński presented the current situation on the Polish-Belarusian border, which is the result of coordinated actions of the Belarusian services. The possibility of building a border dam and scenarios for future actions were also discussed.
The meeting of the Committee of the Council of Ministers for National Security and Defence Affairs attended by generals of the Border Guard, the Polish Army, and the Police served to discuss the current situation on the border and possible scenarios of a hybrid war waged by the Belarusian regime against Poland and the European Union.
Coordinated action of the Belarusian services
The nature of the actions of the Belarusian authorities is also evidenced by the existence of a border area closely guarded by Belarusian services. The presence of immigrants in this area is obvious proof of the involvement of the Belarusian state in these activities. Jarosław Kaczyński emphasised that the recent political crisis in Afghanistan has no connection with the presence of Afghan citizens on the Polish-Belarusian border. However, it cannot be ruled out that the regime of President Lukashenko will use these events in the future.
"Immigrants are routed to places where there is a chance of crossing the border. Occasionally, Belarusian officers personally participate in cutting through barriers and wires. They support the attempt to cross the border," the Deputy Prime Minister added.
As emphasised by the Polish authorities, the Belarusian services react very cautiously to incidents relating to the health of immigrants and deliberately weaken them.
"All of this is a cynical and brutal action of services directly led by President Lukashenko. It is an action planned many months ago as a retaliation for supporting the Belarusian opposition and an attempt to put pressure on Poland and the EU to withdraw from the sanctions, which the Belarusian regime finds difficult to bear," Jarosław Kaczyński summed up.
Construction of the dam
The actions of the Polish Government are aimed at ensuring the security of the borders and citizens of the Republic. In order to do so, it was decided to build a permanent barrier to prevent the unauthorised crossing of the Polish border. Its concept was discussed during yesterday's meeting of the Committee of the Council of Ministers for National Security and Defence Affairs in Warsaw. As Jarosław Kaczyński noted, the experience of other European countries shows that this is the only effective method.
State of emergency at the border
Since 2 September, a state of emergency has been in force in the Belarusian border area. The resulting restrictions covered 115 towns in the Podlaskie Voivodeship and 68 towns in the Lubelskie Voivodeship. This makes an approximately 3 km strip along the border with Belarus. These actions were met with understanding and support by the local authorities. They are aimed at ensuring the safety of our citizens, including, above all, the residents of border towns. The state of emergency, initially imposed for 30 days, was extended last week for another 60.
