New political landscape is a challenge for all

09.11.2024

“Europe is facing some difficulties; however, Poland remains ready to play a key role in the process of ensuring the security of our region,” Donald Tusk assured. The geopolitical situation was the main topic of today's press conference attended by the Prime Minister. Following a number of meetings with state leaders in Budapest, the Polish Prime Minister shared the news concerning the planned cooperation with European partners in view of the results of the presidential election in the United States. Poland will reiterate that the fate of Ukraine cannot be decided without Ukrainians at the table.

The new political landscape is a challenge for all

Political leaders meet in Budapest

Prime Minister Donald Tusk has spent the last two days in Budapest, where he attended the European Political Community Summit and an informal meeting of the European Council. The talks of the state leaders concerned the situation of Europe in the context of the outcome of the presidential election in the United States as well as the war in Ukraine.

There is no doubt that the new political landscape is a major challenge for all, especially in the context of the possible ending of the Russo-Ukrainian war as a result of an agreement between the Russian and American leaders,

the Prime Minister stated.

The new dynamics of the transatlantic partnership was one of the key issues raised during the meeting.

Everybody is willing to take additional responsibility for maintaining good transatlantic relations, regardless of their personal views on the election results,

Donald Tusk noted.

All political leaders are aware that Europe is facing new challenges.

Poland to face new challenges

In the coming days, Poland will coordinate a partnership with like-minded countries concerning the geopolitical situation.

Poland is now in a special position. We are not in the eye of a potential hurricane, but that does not mean that we are not in a very difficult place.. And that is why remaining calm and collected is very important,

the Prime Minister urged.

The aim of the meetings with our partners will be to develop solutions to the emerging challenges.

We can expect the French President and the British Prime Minister to visit Warsaw, or perhaps I will visit London soon. In a few days we will be hosting the Secretary General of NATO,

the Prime Minister declared.

He also announced his visit to Stockholm and his meeting with the leaders of the Nordic and Baltic States.

The Prime Minister also stated that security and geopolitical issues should not be used for unnecessary political disputes in Poland, urging all parties to avoid doing so.

War in Ukraine

Due to Poland's geographical location, the issue of the war in Ukraine is one of the main factors impacting its security.

From our point of view, the situation and any conclusions concerning Ukraine must first and foremost guarantee Poland's security - that much is obvious. This is a major challenge and one of the biggest tasks ahead,

the Prime Minister declared.

Poland will reiterate that the fate of Ukraine cannot be decided without Ukrainians at the table.

After President Trump takes office, we can expect some solutions and proposals. We need to make sure that they are acceptable to Ukraine,

Donald Tusk noted.

Poland's participation in these talks is crucial.

Any conclusions concerning the war cannot happen without Ukrainians at the table. Poland needs to be present there as well,

he noted.

Whatever the outcome, Europe will have to take more responsibility for its security.

This also concerns the funding for the defence sector. We are a role model for all of Europe, but all states need to focus on building up their military power,

the Prime Minister stated.

He also announced that Poland is ready to play a key role on our continent; however, the key challenge is to ensure security in the process.
