A New Era in Nuclear Energy

The signed agreement marks a significant step towards deepening economic relations between Poland and Canada. As part of the cooperation, the agreement includes the provision of nuclear technology for peaceful purposes, including research, nuclear safety, the use of nuclear materials, and research and development projects. This will benefit not only the energy sector but also agriculture, industry, and medicine. The agreement also provides for technical training and the exchange of specialists and experts.

The document strengthens the legal framework for the development of nuclear industries and opens the door for greater involvement of Polish entities in the advancement of modern energy technologies. The agreement is also crucial for achieving goals related to the energy transition.

"The main technology provider for our first nuclear power plant, which we are now beginning to build, is Westinghouse. Its owners are Canadian companies, which further strengthens our cooperation. This agreement is strategic for us."

– emphasized Prime Minister Donald Tusk during a press conference.

The Polish Prime Minister also highlighted the potential for collaboration with Canada in the field of small modular reactors. He announced further investment cooperation, including with Canada and the world's largest companies.

"Poland is embarking on a path of rapid economic and technological development. (…) We are on the best track to become a leader in modern technologies and a model of progress for all of Europe."

– said the Polish Prime Minister.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau reaffirmed Canada's readiness to support Poland.

"Today, we are taking another step by signing an agreement on cooperation in the peaceful use of nuclear energy. This is a win-win agreement. It means not only cleaner energy for Poland but also independence from Russian energy resources. The Polish economy will develop based on sustainable energy sources."

– said the Canadian Prime Minister.

As a global leader in the nuclear energy sector and one of the world's largest uranium producers, Canada can play a key role in Poland's and Europe's efforts to strengthen energy security.

Poland and Canada as Guardians of International Order

During the meeting, the Prime Ministers also discussed global security challenges, with particular focus on cooperation within NATO and the war in Ukraine.

"I would like to sincerely thank Canada for its solidarity and cooperation in supporting Ukraine. Following Russia's aggression against Ukraine, our countries were at the forefront of nations supporting Kyiv. Thanks to our joint commitment, Ukraine was able to resist Russian aggression."

– said Prime Minister Donald Tusk.

The leaders also emphasized the importance of cooperation in the context of Poland’s ongoing presidency of the Council of the European Union and Canada’s presidency of the G7.

"Poland and Canada will undoubtedly continue to be the guardians of the international order that provides the best guarantees for human rights, economic development, and peaceful coexistence among nations"

– added the Polish Prime Minister.

Prime Minister Donald Tusk also assured that continued support for Ukraine would remain a key area of close cooperation between the G7 and the European Union.

Polish Heritage Month

Prime Minister Donald Tusk expressed gratitude for the decision of the Canadian Parliament to establish Polish Heritage Month, which will be celebrated every May to commemorate the contributions of Poles to Canadian society.

"Thanks to this, Canada will remember how much Polish culture and the Polish community have contributed"

– said the Polish Prime Minister.
