Poland and Sweden host a donor conference in Warsaw
04.05.2022
On 5 May 2022, a High-Level International Donors’ Conference for Ukraine will be held at the National Stadium in Warsaw. The event was initiated by Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki and Swedish Prime Minister Magdalena Andersson. The event partners include the President of the European Council, Charles Michel, and the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen. The aim of the initiative is humanitarian support for Ukraine.
The meeting will take place at the Head of State and Government level, with the participation of representatives of global business and financial institutions – partners from the EU, the World Bank, the International Monetary Fund and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development. In addition, representatives of international humanitarian institutions such as the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, the United Nations Children’s Fund, the International Committee of the Red Cross and the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies will also participate.
Fundraising for Ukraine
The conference aims to raise funds for the growing humanitarian needs of Ukraine. Poland and Sweden want to encourage their partners to jointly respond to the plight of our eastern neighbour.
Organisations that provide humanitarian aid need continued support from donors. This is crucial to expand their capacity to operate in Ukraine and ensure that the help reaches those affected. Donors should continue to show solidarity with the people of Ukraine. They can do so by providing financial support to the UN, the Red Cross Movement and other humanitarian partners.
Aid in the long term
Poland, together with Sweden, argues that both immediate assistance and long-term support are needed. Therefore, the event will provide an opportunity to discuss how to support the resilience of Ukrainian society and meet its needs in the longer term, including funding for the future reconstruction of the country.
This conference will start a series of upcoming aid events for war-ravaged Ukraine in the coming months.
An event open to all
The conference is a one-day hybrid event, allowing both in-person and virtual participation in Warsaw.
It will be broadcast on television and online.

Current situation of the Ukrainians
As a result of Russian aggression, civilians are being killed, forced deportations are taking place, and the financial status of millions of people is steadily deteriorating. Today, real solidarity is needed to support Ukrainian society effectively.
According to UN data, 13 million people in Ukraine require basic humanitarian aid such as shelter, food and medicines. Therefore, it is essential to immediately drum up international assistance for Ukraine, which currently covers less than 15% of its needs.
