Prime Minister at the opening of a section of expressway S11: every kilometre of this road gives a kilometre of new possibilities

16.08.2021

The government makes every effort to improve the road infrastructure in Poland. “In the next couple of years, additional thousands of kilometres of roads will enhance driving comfort and boost development prospects for poviats and communes,” emphasised Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki during his visit in the Wielkopolskie Voivodeship to open another section of the Kępno ring road as part of expressway S11. New national and local roads improve investment possibilities for individual regions of our country. With this in mind, several days ago, the head of government announced the implementation of another programme that is vital to Poles – the 2030 Government Programme for the Construction of National Roads.

Construction of expressway S11 offers new possibilities

The investment project saw the construction of a section of expressway S11 in the form of a section of the Kępno ring road from the Kępno Krążkowy interchange to existing national road no. 11 near Baranów.

”This road is very much needed. It will make the southern part of the Wielkopolskie Voivodeship on the border with the Opolskie Voivodeship a perfect logistics and transport location,” stressed the head of government. “Every kilometre of this road gives a kilometre of new possibilities – of attracting entrepreneurs from Poland and abroad, who create new jobs,” he added.

Valued at PLN 183 million, the investment project was funded from European Union resources in the amount of PLN 97 million. The first phase of the Kępno ring road construction in the form of a 3.6-kilometre section was completed in 2018.

Construction of Polish roads and their modernisation will boost development prospects for poviats and communes

“I often talk to local government representatives and they cannot believe that we have so much money for investments. The repaired government finances allowed us to have much better possibilities to raise capital from financial markets and to create special budgetary reserves. There are also European Union resources, which are of great help. As a result, the coming years will see the construction of thousands of kilometres of environmentally-friendly roads to enhance driving comfort and boost development prospects for poviats and communes.

With the Kępno ring road, heavy traffic will no longer go through the Kępno city centre. The new road will ensure driving comfort and contribute to better road safety.

New roads attract new investments

Expressway S11 creates perfect conditions to provide new jobs. This is also an excellent opportunity for employment growth.

”This means new possibilities of attracting entrepreneurs from Poland and abroad, who create new jobs,” emphasised the Prime Minister, adding that ”new jobs are the fundamental assumption of the Polish Deal. Our intention is to create over 500,000 jobs in the coming years”.

Through the emission of development bonds, it will be possible for Bank Gospodarstwa Krajowego to launch a fund that will finance the reconstruction and modernisation of Poland after the pandemic. Aside from PLN 770 billion to be obtained under the cohesion policy and reconstruction fund, the fund will be used to achieve the European standard of living. The New Deal Fund will not only serve as a driver of development, but also actually change the quality of life of inhabitants of large cities as well as small and medium-sized towns.

2030 Government Programme for the Construction of National Roads

”Valued at nearly PLN 300 billion, the new Programme for the Construction of National Roads includes financial resources to build all sections of expressway S11,” said the Prime Minister.

An efficient road infrastructure is one of the key rapid development factors. New national and local roads not only mean better driving comfort and improved safety, but also offer an opportunity for new investment and jobs. The new programme – 2030 Government Programme for the Construction of National Roads – will help to achieve this. The financial resources available under the GPCNR will ensure the completion of the entire network of motorways and expressways in Poland.
