Prime Minister Donald Tusk Announces Support for Women's Rights and Freedoms

The Polish government wants Polish women to be able to decide for themselves. This is why the so-called “morning-after pill” will be available without a prescription. Prime Minister Donald Tusk announced an amendment to the law in this regard at a press conference at the Chancellery of the Prime Minister. The head of government also announced the dates of local government elections. These will be held on 7 and 21 April 2024. The Prime Minister also referred to this morning's meeting with the President of Poland. The Prime Minister stressed that cooperation in the area of Poland's security is crucial and imperative.
The "Morning-After Pill" Without a Prescription
Women should be able to decide for themselves. The Polish government is meeting these expectations. The so-called "morning-after pill" will be available without a prescription.
"As a government, we will jointly propose an amendment to this law so that this type of contraceptive will be available without a prescription," said Prime Minister Donald Tusk.
800+ For All Those Eligible
The Prime Minister has reassured families who have received a lower benefit under the "Family 800+" programme. The balance will be paid by ZUS.
"I want to assure you once again, because this is an issue of absolute priority for me – every Polish family without exception will receive 800+ in full, if they are entitled to this benefit, of course," stressed the head of the Polish government.
The Date of Local Elections
Local elections for local governments will be held on 7 and 21 April. A regulation to this effect will be sent to the State Electoral Commission for its opinion.
“I hope that April will be a good month for Polish local governance," said the Prime Minister.
Meeting Between the Prime Minister and the President
The main topic of the talks was issues related to Poland's security in the context of Prime Minister Donald Tusk's upcoming visit to Kyiv. Poland will be involved in helping Ukraine. The issue of equal treatment before the law of all citizens was also raised. It is crucial for our government to respect the law, the Constitution and the decisions of independent courts.
"I am ready to cooperate with anyone for the security of Polish men and women and the security of the Polish state. This is indisputable for me," stressed the head of the Polish government.
