Prime Minister Donald Tusk extended his best wishes for the upcoming New Year
30.12.2023
Prime Minister Donald Tusk extended New Year greetings to all Poles. The head of government wished that 2024 would be a happy and safe year for all of us and for Poland, a year of prosperity and reconciliation.
Dear All,
we are slowly saying goodbye to 2023. What a year it was! It will go down in Polish history as a time of breakthrough. I want to thank you very much for this year. It was difficult, full of great emotions, disputes, but also of a civic awakening and a triumph of democracy. We managed to break the record for voter turnout.
The past months have taught us that the impossible becomes possible. And here I am, today, on public television, already as Prime Minister of the Republic of Poland, able to repeat before you the vow I made during the Million Hearts March. We will win – this has already happened. We will settle the accounts – this is already happening. We will right the wrongs – this too is already starting, and – most importantly – we will reconcile.
I know that reconciliation will probably be the most difficult task. But I believe that this time, too, the impossible will become possible. I believe that the Poles will be reborn, as one community, as a great, strong nation. And I will not rest until this happens.
Poland is a country of wonders and wonderful people. If only you could have heard all those compliments, admiration for Poles and their wisdom, which I have heard from leaders of other countries and global authorities. I had the pleasure of hearing this when receiving congratulations, but this great appreciation is for each and every one of you. It is you who have amazed the world in 2023. It is thanks to you that hope has flowed from Poland for all people longing for freedom. We should be proud and I thank you very much for that.
We all dream of normality, harmony and a safe tomorrow. That is the task for the coming year. We will turn everything back on its feet, trust science and experts and common sense again. We will rebuild our position and relevance in international politics. We will replace quarrels with our allies with a firm but friendly conversation about our interests and a search for what we have in common.
Poland will no longer be alone in these dangerous times. And that they are dangerous was confirmed just yesterday when our airspace was violated. That is why it is so important today to speak the truth and nothing but the truth. We will restore words to their true meaning, and patriotism will never again be a veil for dishonesty or plain thievery. We will talk to each other honestly and respectfully. This I guarantee you. Our homeland will be reborn as a modern, strong state – your state. A state that works for each and every one of you, because it belongs to you and only you.
Tomorrow, let us have fun and forget, if only for a while, about everyday worries. And from Monday – I mean from Tuesday, in fact most of you from Wednesday, but, anyway – let us get to work together. So that in a year's time, we can say that 2024 was a happy and safe year for all of us, for Poland, a year of prosperity and reconciliation.
It's time for a happy Poland – this is my sincere wish for all of us.
Prime Minister
Donald Tusk
