Prime Minister Donald Tusk receives the Peace Light of Bethlehem from scouts

19.12.2023

For more than 30 years, Polish scouts have been passing on the Peace Light of Bethlehem so that it can be present at Christmas Eve tables. The Light is a symbol of warmth, love, peace and hope. Every year, it is passed to the President of the Republic of Poland, the Prime Minister and the Speakers of both Houses of Parliament. During the ceremony, Prime Minister Donald Tusk emphasised the essence of this year's Bethlehem Peace Light event, which was held under the slogan “Let us make peace”.

In keeping with tradition, Polish scouts received the Peace Light of Bethlehem from Slovakian scouts. It has already been passed to the President of the Republic of Poland and the Speakers of both Houses of Parliament. Today, it has reached the Chancellery of the Prime Minister.

“I hope that everyone in every Polish home will be firmly convinced that peace, happiness, joy and love will accompany us not only on Christmas Eve, not only on Christmas Day but also for days and years to come”, stressed PM Donald Tusk.

World peace

This year's slogan — “Let us make peace” — is particularly relevant. This was emphasised by Prime Minister Donald Tusk in his speech:

“Today, the word ‘peace’ expresses the desire of everyone on Earth, and here in Poland, perhaps particularly strongly in the internal dimension. Unfortunately, the world has once again come to know war, also near the places we deem sacred. But the idea that we need this inner peace, that is, peace in each of us but also in our homes and our homeland — a reduction of bad emotions — will be our motto today and throughout the next months and perhaps years, when we will be responsible for the fate of our country.”
