Prime Minister in Brzeszcze: All that is Polish is best
02.10.2023
Building a strong Polish economy is very important to the government. It is, therefore, gratifying when a Polish entrepreneur takes over premises from a Western European supermarket chain. The Prime Minister visited the JAN Shopping Centre in Brzeszcze, which already boasts a ‘local shelf’. This shop sells Polish products from regional producers and farmers. Here, we see the shortening of the journey from field to table in practice. Such a solution bypasses the middlemen, i.e., increasing the Polish farmer’s profit.
Takeover of premises from a Western European chain
Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki visited Brzeszcze, where the JAN Shopping Centre operates. It has been opened in a premises taken over from a Western European chain. Today, we are constantly confronted with the enormous power of international discount stores and supermarkets. It is a great achievement that Polish entrepreneurs are able to win the market and customers running such a shop.
“This is where Tesco used to be. A Polish entrepreneur took over the place after that shop. So we have this kind of local repolonisation, which is particularly pleasing because it shows that Polish capital, Polish entrepreneurs and Polish entrepreneurship can also start to take over those who previously dominated Polish trade,” said the Polish Prime Minister.
‘Local shelf’ programme
Shortening the route of transporting produce from field to table as much as possible is one of the government’s objectives. This way, middlemen are bypassed, and the entire profit goes to the Polish farmer. One of the assumptions is the future introduction of a ‘local shelf’ - regional products in your shop. Shortening the transport route of the products as much as possible benefits regional producers financially.
“Our ‘local shelf’ programme is put into practice here on these shelves around me. Goods are being taken directly to the shelves from local farmers and fruit growers. In other words, what we often say – shortening the journey from field to table – is becoming a reality. It is simply an everyday practice,” Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki stressed.
