Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki on efforts to develop local Poland

11.10.2023

We care about the sustainable development of Poland. It is not only investments in roads, schools or sports facilities that local communities need. It is also about supporting social initiatives such as rural homemakers’ clubs. The government will allocate PLN 120 million this year to support these activities.

Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki's visit to Karmin.

Support for rural homemakers’ clubs

The clubs have been actively working for the local community for years while nurturing Polish traditions. In 2018, thanks to the Act, they were granted legal personality. Between 2018 and 2022, the clubs registered in the National Register of Rural Homemakers’ Clubs received financial assistance totalling nearly PLN 197.5 million. The number of registered clubs increased by more than half and exceeded 12,700.

“We discussed a lot of different ideas on how to develop the activities of rural homemakers’ clubs, local folk bands or sports teams as well. This is what the activation of life in our communities, municipalities, counties and villages is all about,” said Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki.

New funds for rural homemakers’ clubs

30 September saw the end of the call for applications for financial aid for rural homemakers’ clubs. Over 13,000 applications were submitted. A total of PLN 120 million will go to rural homemakers’ clubs all over Poland.

The rural homemakers’ clubs may use the funds they receive for social, educational and cultural activities in local communities and activities for the comprehensive development of rural areas. The advancement of women’s entrepreneurship and the initiation of measures to improve their living and working conditions in the countryside are also important objectives for which financial aid is available.

Government supports the development of local Poland

“It is worth emphasising that an unprecedented amount of funding has gone to a municipality such as the urban-rural municipality of Dobrzyca – more funding than ever before. Here, money was invested in gyms, water and sewerage or road investments,” the Prime Minister continued.

As well as working on local social initiatives, we also want to level the developmental playing field for everyone in Poland. That is why we try to help municipalities and counties so that they can implement investments needed by local communities. These include:

Government Fund for Local Investments – providing funding to rebuild local roads, retrofit hospitals, and build day nurseries or libraries.

Government Strategic Investment Programme – providing non-refundable subsidies for public investments made by municipalities, counties, cities and voivodeships throughout Poland.

Support for municipalities with former state-owned farms – as part of the Government Strategic Investment Programme, we also support municipalities and counties that used to have state-owned farms that were forgotten by previous governments.

Government Road Construction Fund – providing funds for safe, modern roads and road infrastructure.
