They wanted a free Poland all along

Fighting Solidarity is one of the most effective underground opposition organisations in the communist era. It was characterised by great devotion and dedication of its members. The head of government noted that in this relay for freedom, on the road to regaining it, Solidarity emerged as a great, wonderful movement that gave hope to Poland but also the nations of Eastern Europe.

“This relay for freedom gave birth to Fighting Solidarity in June 1982. Solidarity of people who fought for independent Poland, who did not agree to exchange iron shackles for velvet ones. They wanted a free Poland all along and for that I thank them on behalf of the government,” said the Prime Minister.

He also thanked them for their dedication and struggle for independence thanks to which we can live in a free, independent and increasingly sovereign Poland.

“Cursed soldiers bore witness to the truth and fought for freedom; they are victors. Just like you, the activists of Fighting Solidarity, are victors because heroes are those who fight for freedom, goodness and truth,” he continued.

Now we have to defend the independence of Ukraine

Prime Minister pointed out that similarly to Fighting Solidarity which had to confront communism, now Ukraine has to fight for its independence with the same enemy, only in a different disguise.

“Today we have to defend our independence through our support for our Ukrainian neighbours. They are fighting a battle against the same evil – it has a different face that the one from 40 years ago but the totalitarian roots of this evil can be found in the philosophy of the Russkiy Mir,” pointed out Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki.
