Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki: Poland is safe with the strength of our army and services and the strength of the alliances we are in

02.08.2023

Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki announced that he would meet with the President of Lithuania Gitanas Nausėda at the Suwałki Gap. This is related to the provocations on our eastern border and the escalation of tension in the region. Cooperation with Lithuania is essential in the face of those provocations. At the same time, we remain in constant contact with our NATO allies. We are strengthening our border protection and will not allow ourselves to be provoked.

Prime minister

Poland has been the subject of provocations and hybrid attacks from Belarus and Russia for years. This year alone, there have been more than 16,000 attempts to illegally cross our border.

Cooperation with Lithuania in the face of provocation

- There will be more similar provocations and their purpose will be the creation of confusion in Poland and other NATO countries, especially in our region. Therefore, I will hold an urgent meeting with the President of Lithuania Gitanas Nausėda at the Suwałki Gap tomorrow. Cooperation between Poland and our Lithuanian ally is essential in the face of those threats and provocations – stressed Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki.

At the same time, the head of the Polish government admitted that, as regards the Wagner Group and other hybrid activities of our opponents, we were in constant contact with our NATO allies: the United States, the United Kingdom and others.

We care about the security of Poland and Polish people

For the past 2 years, additional forces have been stationed near the border: soldiers and officers whose task is to ensure the security of the border areas. Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki also stressed that our opponents were hoping for divisions in Poland. Mateusz Morawiecki reminded the wrong decisions of his predecessors - such as the liquidation of 629 organisational units of the Polish Army or the privatisation of companies in the Polish Army sector.

- The biggest mistake is to follow the scenario of the provocateurs, to criticise - according to their assumptions - the Polish services and army, to question the modernisation of the Polish army – pointed out the Prime Minister.

We will not allow Poland to be destabilised

- Polish people are not allowed to support the provocations of the Wagner Group, Lukashenko and Putin. Regardless of what their motives are. I appeal to everyone to use their common sense. Not to give in to the atmosphere created by some. Poland is safe with the strength of our army and services, and with the strength of the alliances we are in - stressed the Prime Minister.

- Today, everyone who cares about such values as freedom, sovereignty and democracy should support the Polish raison d'état, support those who protect us today and protect what we believe in! - concluded his speech the head of the Polish government.
