Prime Minister on the epidemic situation in Poland: We must stay vigilant
06.07.2021
The number of COVID-19 cases and deaths in Poland is currently low. However, the pandemic has not ended yet, and the coronavirus disease is still a force to be reckoned with. We must stay vigilant – other virus mutations pose a major threat. The government is preparing an action plan for the 4th wave that might come. Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki participated in a staff meeting on the epidemic situation in Poland. The head of government – together with the Minister of Health and the Medical Council – discussed new virus variants and an action plan to be implemented in autumn.
Please stay vigilant, the pandemic is yet to be over
We are observing a certain trend among our citizens – we relax our vigilance and forget that the pandemic is yet to be over. Other virus mutations mean that the situation is still serious. Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki referred to data from Great Britain, in which the 4th wave has already begun, with daily COVID-19 cases exceeding 20,000.
Please remember the safety rules in place: cover your mouth and nose in rooms, keep a safe distance from others, and disinfect your hands.
We are studying COVID-19 mutations
Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki visited the State Sanitary Inspection laboratory in Warsaw, where the latest technologies to sequence viruses, including the Delta variant, are used. He talked with specialists involved in studying coronavirus mutations.
”We are preparing tests for coronavirus variants. Today, the Delta variant is in the centre, but the Lambda variant is just around the corner. These are threats that can be avoided,” said the head of Polish government.
Vaccination protects against COVID-19 death and severe cases
Data from the United States show that 99.2% of people who die due to COVID-19 are not vaccinated. This is also the case in France and the Netherlands, with those who have not been vaccinated against COVID-19 accounting for 90% of deaths.
That is why you should book your vaccination right now. From 1 July, everyone can book their 2nd dose at any vaccination site. This is very convenient for those who plan to go on holiday. The vaccination also ensures unrestricted travel. The EU Digital COVID Certificate is a tool that makes it easier for European Union citizen to move during the pandemic.
Action plan for the possible 4th wave – temporary hospitals on standby
The government is preparing for a worst-case scenario, which is an increase in COVID-19 cases in autumn.
”At the meeting with the Medical Council and the Ministry of Health management, which was held today, we discussed what we should do in addition to vaccinations. We are maintaining the infrastructure to deal with the worst-case scenario that may come true in autumn. There are predictions of between ten and twenty thousand cases a day,” said Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki.
The temporary hospitals opened during the 3rd coronavirus wave saved the lives of many people. The government will use them during the 4th wave that might come, so some of the temporary hospitals will not be closed. We must protect and ensure efficient healthcare already at this stage.
