Prime Minister: Poland actively provides aid to Ukraine

26.04.2022

On 26 April 2022, the Polish PM attended a working meeting in Berlin with the Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany, Olaf Scholz. The talks focused on Russian aggression in Ukraine and energy security issues. The most important thing for the whole of Europe is to impose more far-reaching sanctions to suppress Putin’s war machine.

Aid to Ukraine – sanctions and arms transfers

The Polish PM and the German Chancellor discussed issues relating to Russian aggression against Ukraine and the response of European states. It is necessary to impose further sanctions on Russia and help arm the Ukrainians who are defending themselves. Poland is counting on greater firmness from the West.

“Will Ukraine win? Will it survive? This depends on courageous decisions, particularly in two areas. Firstly, the supply of weapons because you need to have something to defend yourself to do so. Ammunition, artillery and, above all, anti-tank, anti-aircraft and anti-missile systems. This is what Poland provides not only from our own resources,” said the Polish PM.

Energy security issues

Another topic of discussion between the leaders of Poland and Germany was energy security in the context of the dynamic increase in energy prices throughout the European Union. Our country is very clear about sanctions. Poland is secure from the point of view of energy supply and security of our industry.

“Also, here in Berlin, I hear confirmation that Poland has the most ambitious and radical plan to cut itself off from Russian hydrocarbons, i.e. gas and oil,” PM Mateusz Morawiecki stressed.

Poland calls for tough sanctions against Russia

Since 24 February, our country has consistently fought for tough sanctions to be imposed on the Russian Federation for its aggression in Ukraine. Poland advocates for far-reaching restrictions, such as the cancellation of imports of Russian raw materials by the European Union. Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki regularly meets with politicians from around the world and presents key issues related to Russia’s aggression in Ukraine.

“We know very well that cutting off the oxygen of the Russian war machine is the sine qua non – the fundamental condition for ending this war. That is why we are urging our partners to take the most radical steps possible in this regard,” stressed the PM.

#StopRussiaNow – a new international awareness campaign

The Ukrainian people are fighting against the brutal aggression unleashed by the Russian Federation. The struggle of our eastern neighbour must not be forgotten. In order to inform Western societies, the Polish government has launched a unique billboard and social media awareness campaign. Western Europe must be aware of the cruelty of this war. Dedicated billboards will appear in many European cities, including Berlin, Paris and Rome. This awareness campaign also aims to stop Russia’s actions by introducing swift and robust sanctions.

These anti-propaganda actions, actions against fake news, which are also widespread in Poland and other Western European countries, are an important task we have to perform,” PM Mateusz Morawiecki stressed.
