Bilateral cooperation between Poland and Ukraine

The Prime Ministers talked about bilateral cooperation and international situation. Economic cooperation was an important topic of discussion. In 2020, Poland became Ukraine’s third-largest trade partner, and the value of Polish investments in Ukraine is increasing. “Cooperation on the part of our companies, such as Orlen or PGNiG, is a good direction for development,” said the Prime Minister during a joint conference with Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal.

The Prime Ministers also talked about the challenges faced by Europe and the world today. “We must find answers to many problems which arise in terms of traditionally defined security and threats of a hybrid nature. Many of them are related to new threats and imperial ambitions on the part of Russia,” said the Prime Minister. He stressed that freedom and sovereignty are the only way to peace and prosperity. “These values are permanently etched in the European identity. They should be an equally permanent determinant of European policy,” he continued.

The Prime Ministers also discussed issues related to politics of memory. “There are many difficult topics, such as enabling exhumation and explaining the genocide in Volhynia. This remains an unhealed wound for us. We need to uncover, expose and acknowledge this historical truth,” said Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki.

We have shown what social and pro-family policy means

The Head of the Polish Government participated in the discussion titled “Europe: Direction Recovery”. The debaters talked about the future of our region and the challenges it will face during recovery from the crisis caused by the pandemic.

“This is a turning point in the history of Europe and the world post COVID-19, and the Polish Order is our answer,” said the Prime Minister.

He emphasised that Polish Order is a proposal meant to support equal and fair development satisfactory for the vast majority and characterised by rapid economic growth. The Head of the Polish Government also referred to current challenges related to security. He pointed out that hybrid and terrorist attacks have created a completely new space for policy-making. He stressed that this is the reason why it is so important to cooperate with all countries for which security is a critical matter.
