EPC summit in Hungary
A meeting of the European Political Community begins in Budapest. Prime Minister Donald Tusk was invited to take part. The Budapest summit is the fifth meeting in the series.
Forty prime ministers and presidents will discuss global affairs. This European Political Community encompasses the European Union and states that want to talk with the European Union about security and enlargement,
the Polish Prime Minister explained before his departure for Budapest.
The attendees will focus on two issues - migration and economic security. Prime Minister Donald Tusk will highlight the need to develop new solutions on the EU level to deal with the abuse of migrants.
During the summit, the Polish Prime Minister will also meet with French President Emmanuel Macron and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer.
We respect the outcome of the elections in the United States
The talks in Budapest will also certainly focus on the war in Ukraine and the outcome of the US presidential election. In his statement, the Prime Minister alluded to Donald Trump's victory, which stirred a lot of emotions, both in Poland and around the world.
Democracy and democratic decisions - such as the ones the voters made in the United States - are sacrosanct,
Donald Tusk noted.
The political situation in the United States will have various impacts on Europe.
The outcome of the US elections will have major consequences when it comes to the European policy, especially as far as security is concerned,
the Prime Minister stated.
That is why strengthening Poland and alignment in the area of European policy are crucial.
Poland, Europe and change in the United States
Poland has well-defined and unchanging interests; the government will focus on them in the process of developing bilateral relations with the United States, regardless of who is at the helm.
The US election illustrates the dynamic situation around the world; however, this does not mean that our interests will change. This constancy is one of the core tenets of Polish politics, which will be guided by the needs and interests of Poland,
Donald Tusk announced.
During the EPC summit, the Polish Prime Minister will try to convince other European partners to work towards consolidating relations with the United States.
Donald Trump has been a controversial candidate, but the outcome of democratic elections in the United States is sacrosanct and needs to be respected. We will work together with President Trump to strengthen the Polish-American partnership,
the Prime Minister pointed out.
It is important to approach any geopolitical change sensibly.
I hope that all political actors in Poland will be mature about it. I will need serious institutional partners in Poland in order to pursue Polish interests, regardless of international dynamics,
the Prime Minister stated.
On Friday, an informal European Council meeting will take place in Budapest.
