Prime Minister: Vistula Spit cut is our pride and joy

01.07.2021

Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki and President Andrzej Duda visited the construction of the Vistula Spit canal. The investment is not only an opportunity to develop the region, but an opportunity to ensure economic growth of the entire country. The Vistula Lagoon will become navigable for many vessels, including ferries, cruise ships, and cargo ships. Region accessibility and trade will improve.

Vistula Spit cut strengthens Polish sovereignty

In their joint speech, both Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki and President Andrzej Duda stressed that the construction of the canal strengthens Polish sovereignty. For the first time in the post-war history of Poland, we will not have to ask our western neighbour for permission to enter the Vistula Lagoon.

This strategic investment will make it possible for sea-going vessels to navigate to ports in Elbląg, Frombork, or Tolkmicko freely and all year round. This will revitalise our ports in that region.

”Our policy is to open up to the entirety of our beautiful Baltic Sea. Gdańsk and Gdynia are on their way to become the largest Baltic Sea port, which symbolises our successful maritime, trade, and port policy,” added the President of the Council of Ministers.

The Vistula Spit canal will create thousands of new jobs. It is also an opportunity to develop tourism there.

“All of these investments – starting with the Vistula Spit cut – are aimed to change the position of Poland in political and economic terms. They will ensure the creation of better and well-paid jobs, which is part of the Polish Deal as well,” said the head of Polish government.

The government confirms the implementation of important strategic investments that will contribute to the economic development of our country and well-being of Poles. This is one of the prime objectives of the Polish Deal.
