The Prime Minister in Siedlce: the Polish budget is providing money for developing the Polish army
05.09.2022
The expansion and modernisation of the army, active membership in NATO as well as the Law on the Defense of the Fatherland have been the main pillars of strengthening Poland’s defenses in recent years. The draft budget for 2023 foresees an increase in spending on the defense of our country from 2.2% to 3% of its GDP. This means over PLN 97 billion, which will be allocated to developing the Polish army.
Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki has paid a visit to the 18th Mechanized Division in Siedlce, where new Cougar armored personnel carriers, which came to Poland this year, are stationed
The head of the government stressed that Poland, thanks to proper preparation, was safe.
A stable budget is the basis for defence development
The draft law on the budget for 2023, adopted by the Council of Ministers, has been subjected to consultation with the Polish people regarding its suitability. The government has consistently increased revenues by effectively closing the VAT gap. This enables us to implement a number of programmes addressed to the needs of the Polish people.
In the 2023 budget, the necessary funds have been secured for the continuation of existing priority actions, as well as for the implementation of new ones. These include:
- social programmes
- valorisation of pensions and the 13th pension
- defense
- healthcare
- road construction and repairs
The 2023 budget will increase funding for Poland’s defense requirements from 2.2% of its GDP to 3% of its GDP. In 2015, defence spending amounted to PLN 37.1 billion; in 2023 it was expected to reach PLN 97.4 billion.
New units
During his visit to Siedlce, Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki met with soldiers and also saw the new Cougar armoured personnel carriers produced in America. These vehicles belong to the Mechanised Division formed in 2018, a four-brigade unit of the land forces.
"From the very beginning, we have decided to significantly strengthen the Polish army. The Polish army is receiving very modern equipment – here you can see that we have Cougars in the 18th Division in Siedlce. We have excellent equipment, which is now subject to additional armament”, said the Head of the Polish Government.
The Prime Minister also stressed that additional money in the state budget allows for the launch of new military units and the purchase of the most modern equipment – combining domestically produced equipment with the best constructions from around the world. Poland has signed contracts for the supply of K2 tanks, F-35 fighters or Krab, HIMARS and Patriot artillery etc.
The Polish Army guarantees our security
”Only those who ensure peace properly prepare for war. Poland is preparing for dangerous circumstances, but as part of the strongest alliance in the history of the world, we are safe”, assured the Prime Minister.
A number of solutions, such as increased investments in the army, the Law on the Defense of the Homeland, the creation of the Territorial Defense Forces or voluntary basic military service, are important steps towards ensuring a safe future for all Poles. Aware of our responsibility, we are investing in our security, because a safe Poland and the safety of the Polish people are the goals of our policy
