We will invest PLN 600 million in Huta Stalowa Wola

15.02.2023

In 2023, we are allocating nearly 4% of GDP to the development of our army. Huge orders for new equipment for the military require an efficient industry at the highest level. During a visit to Huta Stalowa Wola, Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki announced a decision to invest PLN 600 million in its development. In the future, further PLN 1.2 billion is planned, which will also go to Polish arms factories and plants. The additional funds for the arms industry will allow increased production of modern military vehicles for the Polish Army.

Funding for the Huta Stalowa Wola consortium

Over PLN 600 million – this will be the first instalment for the expansion of the steelworks Huta Stalowa Wola. This investment includes the expansion and modernisation of the infrastructure and machinery used for production.

“I have decided to recapitalise the entire Huta Stalowa Wola consortium to the tune of PLN 600 million, and this is the first instalment. The next instalment will be PLN 1.2 billion, not only here in Stalowa Wola, but also, for example, PLN 100 million for the recapitalisation of Autosan in the Podkarpacie region – so that we can produce tank destroyers, so necessary on today’s battlefields," said Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki.

The modernised Huta Stalowa Wola means above all increased production of Polish “Krab” howitzers, “Borsuk” infantry fighting vehicles or “Rak” mortars. The steelworks will also be ready to produce vehicles under foreign licence for our army. This means that the world’s latest military technology will now be produced in Poland.

We order Polish arms and support the Polish arms industry

Poland's security and independence are paramount values, which is why this year we are allocating nearly 4% of our GDP to the ground-breaking modernisation of our army. The immediate goal is to fully replace vehicles of Soviet construction, which are currently in the stock of some units, with the latest vehicles compatible with NATO technology – including Polish designs.

“Here our engineers, our designers, our technicians, our workers build, design and construct state-of-the-art equipment that will be used by the Polish Army. This is an excellent achievement of recent years,” stressed the head of government.

Above all, we want new equipment for the Polish Army to be produced in Poland. This is why today we are investing additional hundreds of millions of PLN in our arms industry. This will enable Polish plants, such as Huta Stalowa Wola, to continue to grow and record profits.

“I especially congratulate and thank employees of Polish production plants, plants producing Polish weapons or very modern weapons produced in Polish plants under foreign licence. So the integrated production of Polish plants within NATO,” the Prime Minister added.

State-of-the-art equipment manufactured in Poland

Expansion of Huta Stalowa Wola is primarily about developing production capacity for state-of-the-art military equipment. Thanks to government spending on the modernisation of our army, Huta Stalowa Wola is now receiving large orders for new vehicles for the Polish Army, but also for export – owing to the excellent reputation of Polish constructions.

The flagship product of the Polish arms industry is currently the Krab self-propelled gun-howitzer, which the Polish armed forces have ordered in the quantity of 48 for the near future. An innovative project of the Borsuk infantry fighting vehicle is also being developed for the Polish Army, along with the potential to produce up to 100 units per year. We are also producing modern Rak mortars. Production of all these vehicles will be increased.

“What is this capital being used for? Firstly, Stalowa Wola is the production of Krabs. Krabs are state-of-the-art mobile gun-howitzers that perform very well in Ukraine, on the modern battlefield. Today, we have increased the order to 48 units, but Huta Stalowa Wola is capable of producing 50 Krabs per year,” said Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki. “We are increasing production to the maximum in order to meet the needs of the Polish Army. There will also be Krabs prepared for export, as it is a product that is very much in demand around the world today," added the head of government.

At the same time, we also manufacture the following in Stalowa Wola:

  • Langusta rocket launchers,
  • Baobab-K mine-laying vehicles,
  • many types of engineering vehicles,
  • reconnaissance vehicles,
  • command vehicles,
  • transport vehicles,

and the components for them.
