On 27 May, the meeting of the EU Agriculture and Fisheries Council (AGRIFISH) was held in Brussels. At the meeting, further measures related to the current crisis situation in agriculture and issues related to the situation in agricultural markets were discussed. Poland submitted for debate a proposal on the difficult situation of fruit producers, in connection with the expected decrease in yields caused by adverse weather conditions. The Polish delegation was chaired by the Secretary of State Michał Kołodziejczak.

The TALL project, implemented by the Agricultural & Mechanical (A&M) University in Texas, was the major topic of today’s meeting of Undersecretary of State Adam Nowak with Professor Jim Mazurkiewicz and the representatives of the American agricultural sector participating in the programme.

“Polish food abroad: successes, opportunities and challenges” was the topic of a panel discussion attended by Undersecretary of State Adam Nowak at the European Economic Congress in Katowice on May 9, 2024. Deputy Minister Nowak emphasised that Poland’s 10-fold increase in food exports over the past 20 years in the European Union would not have been possible without the involvement and development of the processing sector, which has made excellent use of its export potential.

At yesterday’s AGRIFISH Council meeting in Luxembourg, Minister Czesław Siekierski discussed further measures concerning the current situation in agriculture and trade-related agricultural issues.

At this year’s FHA-Food & Beverage (FHA) trade fair in Singapore, the Polish Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development was represented by Secretary of State Stefan Krajewski. During the event, discussions were held with representatives of the Singaporean administration on the possibility of increasing Polish agri-food exports to Singapore, in particular, of opening up the Singaporean market to Polish beef. Chief Veterinary Officer Krzysztof Jażdżewski and Director-General of the National Support Centre for Agriculture Henryk Smolarz accompanied Deputy Minister Krajewski.

On Thursday, 18 April, the Secretary of State Jacek Czerniak met with LYU Weihong, Deputy Minister of the General Administration of Customs of the People’s Republic of China (GACC) – the institution responsible for access of imported food to the Chinese market. During the meeting, the most important demands regarding the expansion of opportunities for exporting Polish agri-food products to China have been discussed.

“We are a large producer and exporter of food products. The Ministry of Agriculture is making great effort to ensure the safety and high quality of food produced in Poland, a task that would not be possible without the producers and the financial support from the state budget and the EU. We would like to express our gratitude to all those involved in this production,” said Secretary of State Stefan Krajewski at the opening of the WorldFood Poland trade fair in Warsaw. The Deputy Minister also took part in a debate on “How to ensure the competitiveness of the Polish food industry? Sustainable Food Production and Processing”.

Undersecretary of State Adam Nowak attended an informal meeting of EU agriculture ministers held in Belgium over the past two days. Belgium currently holds the Presidency of the Council of the European Union for this term. The discussions focused on the EU’s strategic autonomy in protein production.

Today, the Director-General Bogusław Wijatyk met with the Chinese Ambassador to Poland Sun Linjiang. They discussed the most important issues in the field of bilateral cooperation in the agri-food sector, including the state of preparations for bilateral high-level meetings planned this year.
