E-Prescriptions (“e-Recepta”), E-Referrals (“e-Skierownie”), and E-Orders (“e-Zlecenie”)
Instructions: How to Submit an e-Prescription (“e-Recepta”)
- At the pharmacy, provide the patient's PESEL number and the prescription code received from the physician during the telehealth or in-person visit. The prescription code does not need to be in printed form; it is sufficient to convey it verbally to the pharmacist.
- The patient may purchase any medications from the prescription at various pharmacies, but all packages of the same medications must be obtained from the same pharmacy where the first package was purchased. It is possible to spread out the purchase of medications.
- The validity period of the prescription varies depending on the type of medication: antibiotics - 7 days, immunological preparations - 120 days, other medications - 30 days. The countdown for this period is counted from the date of the prescription being issued by the doctor or as indicated by the doctor ("the date of dispensing from..."/ „data realizacji od…”). E-prescriptions for medications that are regularly taken by patients with chronic conditions can be issued with an advance period of up to 365 days. In such cases, the doctor should specify: "the date of dispensing from..." („data realizacji do…”) with the condition that the initial package of the medication must be obtained within 30 days from the date of the prescription being issued.
Instructions: How to Submit an e-Referral(“e-Skierownie”)
An electronic document issued by a doctor replaces the traditional paper referrals for specialized treatment or hospital admission. When enrolling for treatment or diagnosis based on the referral, the patient should present or provide the 4-digit code and their PESEL number received from the referring doctor. Alternatively, the patient can display on a phone or tablet screen the information received regarding the issued referral.
Instructions: How to Submit an e-Order (“e-Zlecenie”)
- Medical devices encompass corrective glasses, canes, crutches, wheelchairs, orthoses, balconies, orthopedic shoes, and pull-ups.
- When generating orders for medical devices, the principle of specialization applies. For instance, an ophthalmologist issues orders for glasses, while the acquisition of a wheelchair requires an order from an orthopedist, neurologist, surgeon, medical rehabilitation doctor, rheumatologist, or similar specialist.
- The issuance and verification of e-Orders for the provision of medical devices occur during a telehealth or in-person visit to the doctor. This immediate verification option alleviates the need for the patient to visit a regional office of the National Health Fund (NFZ, nfz.gov.pl). The patient receives an order number, which, in conjunction with their PESEL number, enables the purchase of the necessary medical device at a medical supply store or pharmacy that holds an agreement with the NFZ.
Validity Period of the e-Order
- If the order is issued and verified at the time of discharge, it is valid for 12 consecutive calendar months from the date of issuance.
- If the order is generated outside of the computer system (e.g., on a traditional printout) and is validated by an NFZ employee, it remains valid for 6 consecutive calendar months from the date of issuance.
