Europe's First Aortic Valve Replacement Surgery with the Latest Generation Biological Prosthesis, Epic Max, via Minimally Invasive Access at the PIM MSWiA
23.04.2024
On April 16th, 2024, the Department of Cardiac Surgery and Transplantation at the PIM MSWiA conducted Europe's first operation to replace the aortic valve with the latest generation biological prosthesis known as Epic Max, utilizing minimally invasive techniques. The procedure was led by Professor Piotr Suwalski and his team. The Epic Max prosthesis, crafted from biological materials, mimics the behavior of the patient's natural valve. Moreover, its contemporary construction materials promise an extended lifespan, while its design facilitates potential future percutaneous interventions. The adoption of this cutting-edge valve prosthesis sets new benchmarks in cardiac surgical practices, ultimately enhancing patient care.
The designation of the Department of Cardiac Surgery and Transplantation at the National Medical Institute of the Ministry of the Interior and Administration for this pioneering procedure is a reflection of our extensive experience in minimally invasive techniques, positioning us as leaders in Europe.
