08.01.2024
Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski has met in Warsaw today with his Japanese counterpart, Yōko Kamikawa.
During the meeting, the ministers positively assessed the achievements of the Polish-Japanese strategic partnership that links the two countries since 2015. Minister Sikorski mentioned political dialogue, economic and research cooperation, as well as security and defence issues as the major areas of collaboration. The two officials expressed their appreciation of the comprehensive nature of bilateral economic relations and the role of Japan as a leading non-European investor in Poland. Both sides took note of the potential for cooperation in cutting-edge technology.
During the talks, Minister Sikorski and his Japanese counterpart highlighted the similar way in which Warsaw and Tokyo understand the core values of international order, such as democracy, human rights, and respect for territorial integrity and sovereignty of states. This is reflected in the practical cooperation between Poland and Japan on the international front, for instance as regards assistance provided to Ukraine.
Minister Kamikawa emphasised Poland’s role in supporting Ukraine and declared the willingness to work together with Polish business in the future reconstruction of this country.
When discussing the international situation, the diplomats stressed the importance of respecting the rights of civilians in conflicts, not using force in relations between states, and a peaceful settlement of disputes.
