82nd anniversary of the Katyn Massacre

Consul Michał Gierwatowski laid a wreath at the Katyn monument in Johannesburg to commemorate the 22,000 shot in Katyn in 1940 by the NKVD representatives of the elite of the Polish nation and all victims of the tragic flight of representatives of the highest authorities of the Polish state, who in 2010 went to commemorate these terrible pages of history for the Polish nation.
April 10 is also the 79th anniversary of the arrival to South Africa of a group of 500 deported children who found a safe haven in Oudtshoorn after many months of wandering.
The ceremony was attended by representatives of Polish diaspora organizations in South Africa and Fr. Radosław Szymoniak, who said a short prayer for all victims.
