The Ambassador of the Republic of Poland to South Africa, Andrzej Kanthak, met with a group of South African artists who will perform within a framework of the MusicXwords project at the Globaltica festival in Gdynia on 14-16 July 2022.
The meeting was attended by Spha Mdlalose, Modise Sekgothe, Phomolo Sekamotho, Wandile Mbambeni, Khayalethu Mguzulo, representatives of the European Union Delegation in Pretoria - Elisabet Dahlberg Frisk and Anele Matshisi, as well as consul Michał Gierwatowski. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss the above-mentioned project, as well as familiarizing artists with the situation in Poland, travel safety, Polish culture, customs and tourist attractions, as well as procedures and requirements related to visa issues. For some of the artists who participated in the meeting, it will be their first trip abroad. The MusicXwords program was realized in cooperation with the EU and the Music in Africa Foundation. It is aimed at young South African artists who often come from poor backgrounds. Participation in this project gives them a chance for self-realization and achieving professional success. The project aims to enable interdisciplinary exchange between South African artists and to strengthen cooperation with European cultural institutions. The open call, announced in August 2021, attracted 105 applications, out of which 10 musicians and poets were selected.
The GLOBALTICA World Cultures Festival has been organized in Gdynia by the Liberty Cultural Foundation since 2005. The main goal of the World Cultures Festival is to show multiculturalism, familiarizing people with different traditions and religions. Most of the events take place in the Kolibki Park in the seaside district of Orłowo. The main area of activity is music, but the festival also presents works from other fields, such as literature, fine arts, photography and film.
