The Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Pretoria announces with deep regret that Ms. Barbara Kukulska, a long-time president of the Polish Association in South Africa and an active campaigner for the Polish community abroad, passed away on Sunday, January 17, 2021.

Barbara Kukulska's social activity contributed significantly to the creation of a positive image and good name of Poland abroad. For many years she was the president of the largest Polish organization in South Africa - the Polish Association in Johannesburg, established in 1948 as the Union of Polish Settlers. Ms Kukulska was the initiator of the foundation of the Polish Association of Siberian Deportees in Africa, editor-in-chief of the newsletter "Wiadomości Polonijne" published in RSA, and a member of the Polish Consultative Council at the Marshal of the Senate of the Republic of Poland of the 9th term. For her outstanding merits and achievements, she was awarded the medals "Pro Memoria", "Pro Patria" and the Commander's Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta.

The Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Pretoria expresses its deepest sympathy to the mourning family and loved ones.
